BASKETBALL <3<3 :D

Basketball is a big part of my life. I've been playing ball since I can remember. Every year I improve my skills and play at the play deck, where all the other basketball lovers spend their summer evenings. Doesn't matter the time, or the weather. Some people play in the rain, wind, run and whatever weather it may have. I've played for the Nelson Island high school girls. I'm very competitive. I love winning, and hate losing. But who does? The picture is of a ring at our play deck. Its worn out from athletes playing for hours.

Fish camp

Toksook Bay residence are very nice. During the summer, people are busy taking care of subsistence. Most people fish for halibut and herring. During the winter they work on seal and muskox. Subsistence is everyday. We survive with our subsistence. Its a big part of our culture. Working on fishes takes the whole summer. The boats are all ready for the bay to break. Everyone is ready to go out hunting for seals, and many other different kinds of seals, fish and more.

Eww, Trash!! :&

I cant believe I'm posting this. This is the ugly part of Nunakauyaq. This little dumpster is one of many around Toksook. Residence leave their trash in here for the trash to be hauled to the dump by the trash man. Winter is going, and revealing the trash that was well kept hidden for the winter. During the summer, one of the organizations here have a clean up crew for a week and clean all over town. Most cleaners are young and looking for easy money. Each bag filled is worth $5.00. Someone is going to be rich this summer. ;).

Macro Photography

How to do just about everything…
Most people believe that macro camera lens should be straightforward. But this website gives reasons why. A macro lens is for close-up photography. This type of close up gives a picture the same size as subject. Here are the steps on how to use a good macro photography.

Step1- Buy a camera. 35 mm films or a SLR digital camera.
Step2- Take the camera to a knowledgeable sales person.
Step3- Select camera settings. Beginners may want to chose the macro setting.
Step4-Use a tripod. Odds of getting a blurry photo drip is you use a tripod
Step5- Practice. The only way to master taking macro photography is practice.

Macro

The average animal is the size of an ant. The macro lens is a major took in the arsenal of a photographer. Macro photography is defined as arelm where images are at least 1/3 life size or larger. Most digital photography have this lens. Taking a true macro is usually done with a specialize micro lens and accessories. They require different techniques. You need to concentrate on focus, camera stability, lighting.

Macro photography

Definition of Macro Photography is close-up photography, same image projected on the “film plane” is closer to the same size of the subject. Usually on a 35 mm film. The lens is optimized to focus on small things. 35 mm can get close to at least 1:2.
The term macro is marketing materl meaning to be able to focus on the subject close enough that when a regular prink is made, the image is life size or even larger. This is a 1:4 ratior.

Canon

To bring mall things into a full sized view. This website shows different types of cameras to select from. Macro lenses can uncover detail that would be impossible to detect by the human eye. They give new perspective to extremely small subjects such as insects or the petals of a small flower.

Adorama

This website shows different kinds of lens. One good lens is a telephoto lens from Nikon 200mm f/4D ED-IF AF Micro Telephoto Nikkor Lens with Case - Refurbished By Nikon U.S.A. It is very expensive. To buy just the lens, without the camera, is up to $999.95. This website also includes other great lens used for different kinds of photography taking. It also shows reasons why it will be a good to buy this type of lens.

Minolta MC and MD Macro lenses

A Minolta offers two macro lenses in their manual lineup. They are both available in MC and MD mount. Minolta has not changed the optical construction during all the years these lenses have been in production. The mechanical construction of these lenses changed such as the Minolta lens system. The earlier versions have metal barrels and less advanced lens coating. The more advanced lens have more of a plastic construction and better coating.

This website talks about what types of Minolta cameras are available that contain a macro lens. There are 9 different cameras they talk about, that also have a macro lens they can attach to.
It also talks about what different books you can read to know more about macro photography and which macro lens is better and why.

PhotoMacrography

Using just a simple + 3 diopter can give magnificent results. Better results can be obtained by using a Nikon 6T, a Canon 250D, or a Raynox dcr-250. These are corrected for chromatic aberrations which cause color fringing, while the simple + diopters are not corrected. The advantage comes from having a large optical zoom with good optics. By simply using the zoom, we can vary the ratio wanted. Don't use or switch the camera to the macro mode. Use the full optical zoom for added lenses.

This site shows 12 different photos showing a good example of macro photography. They are mostly of insects and plants. There are 2 photos showing how a camera can bet set up to take a photo.

Diopter Test Shots

These photos were taken underwater using a Tamron 90mm macro lens on a Tamron 2x Teleconverter. These photos were taken using a +4, +2, or no screw in diopter. For each different screw-in diopter the choice made a Depth of Field test image with the push-on diopter. This was done by holding a ruler at about a 45 degree angle to the film plane. DOF in 64th’s of an inch can be read by counting how many 1/64” ruler lines are in acceptable focus and dividing the number by 2.

These are photos are of numbers on a ruler, and they are so descriptive and very detailed. There are some of millimeters and centimeters and inches.

Distortion-free close-up stereoscopic photography

This site is for people who never heard about macro photo taking. This is a step-by-step instructions on how to take a photo. It also shows examples of how people take a photo. And what ways is more important. There are photos that indicate what a photo needs to have to be classified as a macro photograph. There is some photos that were enlarged to be considered one. And some of them, the lights were brighter so we can see more details in the picture.

Beautiful Bugs

What is meant by “true macro” is the ability to produce an image that is as big (or bigger) on the film plane (or digital sensor) as it is in real life…this is where we get the term “lifesize” or “1:1 magnification” as it is used in macro lingo. The term “magnification” is important because true macro photography does not involve “zooming” or getting closer to a subject; instead, we are relying on the lens itself to magnify the image that will be projected onto the film plane. In other words, just because your Sony F717 has a minimum focusing distance of 2 cm doesn’t mean that it can produce “lifesize” images by merit of its ultra-close minimum focusing distance. Zooming and how close you are to the subject really have nothing to do with macro; it’s mostly in the magnification properties of the lens. Still, just because you don’t have a true macro rig doesn’t mean you can’t get great insect close-ups.

Despite their reputation as pests, the trillions of insects, bugs, and spiders that inhabit the Earth can make some of the most fascinating and dramatic close-up photography subjects. Insects and their tiny environments offer the macro photographer an unlimited amount of color, texture, and physical architecture to explore. They are as unique as we are, and they are obviously much more plentiful. As an added bonus, you won’t even have to get a “model release” after you’ve photographed them! During most months of the year, bugs can be found just about everywhere, and most make very willing subjects…if you just learn how to find, approach, and compose them.

High Iso vs Auto

This is a example of High ISO. Most cameras have it. If you don't have it on your camera, then you suck. I'm kidding, you don't suck. Actually you rock my sock.

The reason why this is an O.K. example of High ISO is because it shows the kids. It is brighter than the auto taken picture. High ISO is best used in big places with not a lot of light, e.i. the gym.

Because I took a photo with High ISO I can tell that they are playing basketball. I can see what each person is doing.

3 Hooray's for the inventor of High ISO!

My next photo was taken using auto. The auto made the gym look darker and made the picture boring. I cant really tell who is in the photo and not really understand what they are going.

I like the High ISO because I can view the kids more and understand what they are doing.

There are so many rules on taking a good photo. So many. But not a lot of then are hard to remember or understand. So don't get scared.

"Framing Your Shots".... =]

I hate taking photos like this. It sucked today in class.


It's a desk. I know, I know... Why a desk? I was getting a picture of anything. I know this one would do. Its boring. Very boring. Nothing in this picture is fun or exciting. But it is "Framing My Shot". Yes, I quoted it. Its a photo of a desk from the top, the boarder is the rug. It is obvious what the subject is more because it fills up the whole picture.


I usually don't take pictures of "boring stuff" but these two photos put me to sleep. I didn't really understand the boarder-framing a photo thing. But I know how to take it. I cant think of anything, that would make a photo interesting with this type of photography. I think they invented it for nothing. Bummer for the guy who tried it fist. I bet whoever it was, lucked out. Nice save!

The next photo I took was a window. I cropped it after I took it because... because... it would look more framed. the boarder is again brown, and the pictures inside the boarders are the subjects. I think it makes the photo supposed to be more, "prettied up". And yes, I quoted it again. The pictures inside this picture are pictures of people taking pictures of pictures. I joke, the pictures inside this pictures are of students reading.

I guess they're great boring photos. I'm talented. I know how to take boring pictures. Its something not a lot of people can master. :)). Just kidding. I can imagine how a photo can look good with a "framing" way. But nothing here is that interesting.

I'd recommend that you go on Google to see more "pro photos". 4rd time. Quotes are so fun. LOL. My photos are like the boardering style, but they're are better. Google images.

Baby J and Tunuc'

The on the right is my baby cousin. Hes very outgoing and never is able to stay still. This photo is great because hes smiling really hard and it isn't fake. He is 4 years old. I like this photo because it is showing his real self. Even though there are different kinds of colors we know what the subject is. The bright colors on him help him be the subject too because the colors around him are plain and boring.

When I look at the next photo I remember when I was a kid. Her eyes look so innocent. She is so beautiful. It is a great photo because it is at her level and she doesn't look like shes posing for any photo. Her clothing is also not distractive. There are plain colors that bring out the subject more(the newborn) are white.

I love them both to death.

The second photo shows how not to take a photo. Its in the center and makes the photo boring and boring to watch.


Rule of Thirds is one way to take a good photo. The subject is 1/3 of the way to the left or right.

The picture on the left shows an example of the Rule of Thirds. In my photo it is 1/3 on the left side. The subject is on the bottom corner.

Most cameras have a setup that will make it easier to take a Rule of Thirds photo.

Why Black and White?!

I like these two photos that are in black and white. The first photo, is taken in Umkumiut shore. I think it is better in Black and White because the sun was too bright and the clouds were too dark. I wanted the photo's subject to be the waves. The way it makes it focus on the waves is other colors wont be so distracting.

The second photo is me of course, ;) and my auntie Davida Nicholai. It was taken while I was at work. Her forehead was shiny and the colors of the background made it so the photo didn't point to Davida and I. I like it a lot. When I look at it, I see me and her eyes.

Assignment 1 (March 13,08)

I like this photo because I'm in it. It was taken in Umkumiut, Alaska.I know what your thinking, Where the blankets is Umkumiut? Its located on the west coast of Alaska. Its a fishcamp that is used by Nightmute and Toksook residence. I like it a lot. It shows The Rule Of Third. Fancy right? I'm using socks with my flip flop. But its what everyone is wearing over there! I like how its in Black and White. Not so fancy. But its very nice. The color was good too, but I think this is better. Tell me it rocks!!
